Taxi

The rates for Tenerife airport taxi services vary depending on the time of the day, week or year. You will pay €0.47 per kilometer from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and €0.58 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.  and on holidays. The airport fee is €1.65 and you will pay around €16 from the airport to El Medano, which is the closest resort (9 km).

Weather

You can visit Tenerife at any time of the year thanks to its tropical climate. In the winter, the average temperature is 18° C and in the summer 24,° C. the island is very diverse when it comes to vegetation and climate. In the north, there are a lot of green areas and the weather is slightly colder and rainy, while in the south you get plenty of sun and sand.

There is a weather anomaly you should be aware of. The calima is the wind that comes from the Sahara desert, bringing a lot of fine sand. The sky will look cloudy all the time, but it does not rain. You cannot have a sunbath or enjoy any views and the air becomes stuffy and hot.  There is also a temperature inversion, meaning that the higher you go up, the hotter it gets. It usually lasts between 3 and five days.

Best adventure

Most of the people going to Tenerife want to enjoy the clear waters, hot sands and the adventure parks. But if you want a unique adventure, climb Mount Teide (the highest mountain in Spain) to view the sunrise from its summit. With the cable car go to the highest station and then take the trail to reach the summit. You can also climb from Montana Blanca, spend a night in the Alta Vista Refuge and at sunrise climb to the peak.

Watching the shadow of the mountain over the ocean is something that you will never forget. You will need a permit to climb to the summit, which you can get online from telefericoteide.com, but if you stay at the Alta Vista Refuge and return from the mountain’s peak before 9 a.m. you will not need it.
